Can you help our Lunch Club?

St Paul's Lunch Club started as a church Millennium Project in the year 2000 for elderly local residents. The aims of the club are:

  • Reduce isolation
  • Promote healthy eating
  • Provide a nutritious, tasty 2-course meal at a reasonable cost once a week on Tuesday. We meet in St Paul’s Community Centre

The Lunch Club is run by a group of volunteers and young people wishing to gain experience in catering. The club is a non-profit making initiative.

We started with 12 helpers but sadly, due to retirement and working commitments, we are down to just 4 volunteers. This means that since September we have only been able to operate twice a month until we are able to recruit more team leaders and volunteers.  If you are interested and would like to help with this worthwhile project, please get in touch with us (details below).

We are looking for at least 2 'team leaders' who will work on a rota basis (normally once a month) and be responsible for deciding on the menu, doing the shopping (the cost of which is reimbursed), and supervising the work of 2 cooks.  You would need to arrive by 9.15 am and would finish around 1.30 pm. You will need to support the general work of the volunteers by organising the work throughout.   This includes:

  • Laying up tables
  • Preparing vegetables and fruit
  • Help with the serving, clearing and washing up
  • Be responsible for food hygiene and health and safety

All helpers are required to take the Food Hygiene course.  This will be arranged by the Lunch Club.

We have a regular membership of around 20 elderly people who enjoy meeting and talking together.  A true bond of friendship is formed by the members for each other.

If you feel you might be able to help, please contact our Parish Administrator Wednesday - Friday on tel: 020 8785 2341 or e: office@stpaulsparkside.org.uk
