Bishop of Southwark’s Parish Conversation with St Paul’s Wimbledon Parkside

For a Parish Conversation Bishop Christopher, joined by Canon Carol Coslett, visited St Paul’s Wimbledon Parkside in Wandsworth.

Supper was enjoyed during Bishop Christopher's visit with Revd Susan Bolen, Revd Dr Jack Belloli and members of St Paul's PCC

The visit provided an opportunity to hear about the parish’s joys, plans and aspirations for the future. They engaged with ministry and mission teams, including Messy Church, Tea & Toys, the Wednesday after-school Club, the Pantry team and the Eco-committee.

Bishop and Canon Carol expressed very favourable remarks after hearing about the parish’s outreach programmes. Many of those programmes started during the Covid-19 pandemic and continue to thrive, providing vital support and fellowship.

Encouraging younger families to engage in church life is a priority at St Paul’s Wimbledon Parkside and Bishop Christopher commended efforts to integrate children and youth more actively into worship, recognizing the importance of nurturing faith across generations.

St Paul’s Community Centre was another highlight, with its well-utilized resources strengthening connections through numerous activities each week. It serves as a valuable asset, enabling the church to extend hospitality and support to the wider community.

At the PCC meeting, the Bishop and Canon Carol reviewed the parish’s Mission Action Plan (MAP), noting how its Vision is becoming embedded in parish life. This structured approach ensures the church remains mission-focused while adapting to evolving needs.

Environmental responsibility was part of the day’s discussion. The Eco Committee’s commitment to sustainability, particularly in heating solutions and Eco Church awards, was praised as an essential part of the church’s mission to care for creation.

These parish conversations offer valuable insights into the experiences, joys, and challenges faced by local churches. Bishop Christopher reaffirmed his commitment to supporting parishes, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement needed to thrive. He said the visit to St Paul’s Wimbledon Parkside reflected a strong, vibrant, and forward-looking community, offering much hope for the future.
